Step 1

GET THEM GROWING

Cosmos are tough little flowers — they love sun, they don't need fancy soil, and they bloom fast. Here is everything you need to know.

PICK A SUNNY SPOT

Cosmos love sun. Find a spot in your yard or a pot on the porch that gets at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.

LOOSEN THE DIRT

Scratch up the top inch of soil with your fingers or a small tool. It does not need to be perfect — cosmos thrive in plain old dirt.

SPRINKLE & COVER

Scatter the seeds across the spot. Lightly press them in or sprinkle a thin layer of soil on top. Done.

WATER DAILY FOR TWO WEEKS

Keep the soil moist (not soggy) until you see little green sprouts. After that, ease up — these flowers actually bloom better when you leave them alone.

WAIT FOR THE MAGIC

You'll see blooms in about 50 to 60 days. Most folks who plant in late June see their first flowers in mid-to-late August. Be patient — they will come.

Pro tip from your friendly plumbers: Water in the morning if you can. Less evaporation, healthier plants, and your water bill will thank you. (We notice these things.)

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. The Rare Breed™ Plant. Bloom, Win Contest (‘Contest’) is open to legal residents of the State of Utah who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry. Void where prohibited by law.

Contest Period: Entries accepted from July 20, 2026 through September 14, 2026 at 11:59 PM Mountain Time.

How to Enter: Plant the cosmos seeds you received at the Herriman parade. When the flowers bloom, photograph them and post the photo to Facebook tagging @RareBreedPlumbingHeatingandAir and including the hashtag #RareBreedParade. Posts must be set to public or visible to Rare Breed in order to be eligible.

Winner Selection: One (1) winner will be selected at random from al eligible entries on or about September 26, 2026. Winner will be notified by Facebook direct message and must respond within seven (7) days to claim the prize. If the selected winner does not respond, an alternate winner may be drawn.

Prize: One (1) family six-pack of Lagoon Frightmares Single-Day Passports, valid any single operating day during the 2026 Frightmares season (September 11 - November 8, 2026). Approximate retail value: $660.00 USD. Prize is non-transferable and has no cash value, Tickets are subject to. Lagoon's terms, blackout dates, and operating schedule.
